Grandma Turpin's Box of Photos

When I was about 5 years old or so, my Grandma Jennie Elizabeth Beck Turpin and I shared a bedroom.  At bedtime we oftentimes would look through her chest of treasures -- a mix of old photos and cherished hankies that had been hand-embroidered and given to her as gifts.  Grandma had a story with each item.  I think that was the start of my interest in genealogy.

I still have the chest and many of the photos.  I'm sure I've forgotten some of the stories.  And I'm still working on learning more about the people she told me about.  My Grandpa Will Turpin died before I was born so I never knew him.  My mom, who was Letha Maxine Turpin Stewart, shared what she knew of her family history.   But with a little research we discovered that the Turpin family was a large and very extended family and what we knew was just a sliver of the whole.

My hope is that this blog will be a place to share -- where researchers can discuss and share what they know and learn about the Turpin family.
